Carsington Water Caravan Club Site

Friday 29 July 2016 – Parkside to Carsington Water Caravan Club site

Sue had a podiatry appointment at 14:30 so, even though I’d booked the afternoon off work, we couldn’t get away too early. But we must be getting better at packing and getting ready because we were away within 20 mins of getting back from that appointment.

There are road works at Barnetby Top that I got caught up in a couple of weeks ago so we got onto the A180 via the new Mathew Ford Way road. Actually, using that route to gain access to the A180 from our house is probably now the quickest way anyway.

There had been a cloud burst while we were in the podiatry clinic. That eased up just before we set off but it came back whilst we were travelling and so the journey down the A/M180 was foul. That was made worse by stop start traffic on the M18 but, surprisingly, no hold ups on the M18/M1 junction and nothing on the M1.

We got to the site at around 17:45, checked in and eventually found a reasonable pitch. It seems almost full so took a while to find a pitch. We’re in the middle of loads of trees so the satellite dish could not lock on so Freeview only for the weekend – shame because we’ll miss German Grand Prix. As usual, Ellie and I went for a walk and there is a walk around the border of the site that leads up a hill and then gives a good view of Carsington Water.

We got back to the MoHho and had a nice tea of sausages, baked beans and rice with a few trimmings. After clearing and watching Coro, Ellie and I went out again and found a footpath from the site to Carsington Water. We got to the water and I had to stop her diving in.

We’ve been to this site before – years ago in our tuggin days. John and Ann came to stay with us along with Laura who slept in her carry-cot. Those were the days before Alex was on the scene. Another memory of that weekend was Sue driving the white BMW 320 and getting stuck on the grass (rear wheel drive). A couple of blokes came past and gave me a hand to push her along. Sue thought that putting her foot down would be a good idea but all that did was (rear wheel drive again) splatter loads of mud on the shiny jackets of the blokes that were helping us!

Tennesee Honey for Sue and a glass or two of wine for me and then we turned in.
