Friday 20 June 2015 – Laceby to West Ayton Caravan Club site
For once, we set off in good time. We’d packed most of what we needed on Thursday night and I got away from work reasonable early so we were on the road around 17:30. Journey took around hour and a half over the Humber Bridge, round Beverley, to Driffield and then on to the site which is inland of Scarborough.
Yet again, couldn’t get the satellite dish to lock on to the satellite. Need to get that seen to.
Saturday 21 June 2015 – Scarborough area
Weather was not great. I took Ellie for a walk in the dog walk area. She had a good play with a small spaniel.
Didn’t feel like doing much when it started to rain so ended up catching up on newspapers that were from the week we had in the lakes. Also caught up on all the old Motor Cycle News.
When it finally stopped raining, which was mid-afternoon, we decided to go for a drive into Scarborough. We went to service the MoHo on the way out. The gray water drain was on the wrong side for the Bailey so I spun it round and drive back against the one-way system – very slowly, mind and with hazards flashing.
Whilst I was emptying/filling etc, one of the commandants came by and slapped my wrists for facing the wrong way. He even asked if I was emptying the toilet down the gray waste drain. It was one of those occasions when I thought of loads of sarcastic things to say to him – after he’d cleared off. Caravan Club have some genuine types as commandants but they do seem to have a good share of jobsworths.
We drove into Scarborough and it was still raining so we had no intention of stopping. We went down some quite narrow roads leading down to the sea-front and got into a couple of tight squeezes – I love it, really.
We headed towards Filey and ended up on the sea front there. We thought about going heading toward Bridlington but decided to head back to Scarborough and find a supermarket. We stopped in a side road on the way back to Scarborough and Sue made a cup of tea while Ellie and I went for a bit of a walk. We found a path down to a beach but it looked a bit bleak so we didn’t actually go onto the beach. The Cleveland Way crossed the road that we went down.
When we were out, we heard some nice bike engine sounds so I was expecting to see some bikers tearing down the road. But they didn’t materialise even though the sound continued. Penny the dropped that there was probably some racing at Olivers Mount – which it seems there was – the Barry Sheene festival (I suspect that link will soon not work). Given that Barry was one of my heroes, I’d wish I’d known.
With the help of Google and Tom Tom, we found a Tesco in Scarborough and topped up with some supplies and then headed back to the camp site.
Spent the evening watching Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on DVD – but it kept stopping and I had to scene search to get past the problem areas. Gave up in the end. Shame because it’s quite a good film. We’ve seen it before but I may watch the end at home to see if it’s the DVD or the fairly cheap Finlux tv that we have in the MoHo.
